BEFORE YOU BUY: CHECK THE ADDRESS
One detail families sometimes
discover too late: city limits and
school-district boundaries are
not the same thing. In Plymouth,
for example, homes can fall
within Wayzata, Robbinsdale,
Osseo or Hopkins schools.
Minnetonka is also divided
among
three
districts—
Minnetonka,
Hopkins
and
Wayzata. Two homes just a few
streets apart may therefore be
assigned to completely different
schools.
Before making an offer, use the
district’s official address lookup
and confirm the assigned school
directly with the district—not just
the real estate listing.
Minnesota also offers open
enrollment, which can allow a
student to attend a district
outside their home district. But it
shouldn’t be treated as a
guarantee:
availability
can
depend on school or grade
capacity, and in most cases
families are responsible for
transportation to and from the
nonresident district.
The best community isn’t simply
the one with the highest school
score. Look at the full picture—
school assignment, commute,
home price, property costs, parks,
activities and the routines your
family will live every day. A
beautiful house is important, but
the right location is what makes it
feel like home.
